Travel Nightmare

We just had a long weekend over in KL. The folks were ‘complaining’ that our monthly 3-day visits were way too short for Seth to get familiarised with them. Usually he’ll take a day to warm up and by the time he gets to sit on their laps, we’ll be heading back! So we decided to make full use of the long Deepavali weekend, plus a couple of days off for the Man, and we are all ready for our 5-day expedition!!

We packed everything the night before. More carefully this time as we’ve got more days there. Friday morning, we loaded everything into the car, or at least, what we thought was everything, and set off. After a smooth and relaxing ride, we arrived happily and Seth surprised everyone by taking to the folks almost immediately! He was running around and greeting ‘Yah Yah’ and ‘Mah Mah’ within minutes while we unloaded our barangs. And Loe and Behold! The Man actually forgot to load Seth’s trunki! With all his 5 days worth of going-out clothes, home clothes and pjs! As well as his blanket, his dvds and his snacks!!

He was crazy to contemplate driving back to get it! Another 8 hrs of travel? I convinced him to drive us to the mall to get instant clothes then. 1 hour of frantic shopping later, he was so worn out I knew we made the right choice! And so, Seth had a new wardrobe and his dad had a lighter wallet! Sigh… How I wished it was my luggage he missed out! :/

Major hiccup for the first day marks the start of a serious of unfortunate events. The second morning, we woke to an sms from the car loan people. The Man had forgotten to pay our loan and we are due for late payment interest. With no internet access, we were practically helpless! It somehow spoilt our day as I tried ways and means to make payment via my sisters in Singapore what with the stupid OTP system not getting my pin to my phone in time and such! In the middle of it all, Seth almost burnt the house down with his mischief!

He was running in and out of the rooms while we were watching TV in the living room. He followed Grandma to the kitchen and watched as she turned on the stove to boil water in a kettle. And when Grandma’s not looking, what did my boy do? He turned off the fire, turned the gas back on and touched the kettle! All while we were unaware! We saw him running into Grandma’s room and when he couldn’t find her, he ran to us and cried while stretching out his hand. Thinking he hurt himself in the room, we brought him inside to show us the source of the injury. With nothing to show, we just pacified him and continued with the movie. A little while later, Grandma found her kitchen reeking of gas and we pieced everything together! I reprimanded the naughty kid and asked him what he had done! He very willingly showed me how he could reach the hot kettle at the top of the stove! My goodness!! =O

I’m so glad I got a safety gate for my new kitchen already!

Ok, that marked the most eventful day of the trip. The third night, he threw up on our quilt as he rolled and tumbled all over before bedtime. Fourth day was thankfully safe and smooth. And the final day, while driving back, the Man missed the second link exit and we had to make a slight detour before getting back on track again! Sigh…. And we thought we were seasoned travelers already!

Guilty look after getting a lecture from me!
