Dexter

Just finished watching the first season of this show and I am feeling an intense sense of satisfaction. On the other hand, the Man felt that the show was rather disturbing and warped. Thus it set me thinking…

I seldom feel so strongly about TV and play-acting. This time round, Dexter is about a serial killer who kills under a code, that is, to kill only the guilty. In his exact words, he is just “taking out the trash”. With the recent local law-controversy of the verse “Guilty in the eyes of the Law” on the papers, I start to ponder the differences between that and just plain “Guilty”.

It is true that oftentimes, people get away with injustice simply due to a lack of evidence or some other reasons unspecified. For example the stupid Volvo car which rammed into us years ago but got away with it just because there were no fatalities. Or in a more general example of a murderer who pleaded guilty to manslaughter and getting a jail sentence instead of capital punishment. After a few decades, he may be released on parole and be free as a bird again.

Maybe I am a psychopath at heart. I find contentment in seeing justice done. In one way or another. Legally or unethically. At times I wish I was Dexter. Right. it’s not exactly a Christian thing to feel. But sometimes God does take too long to “clear the bin”.

Sigh. Maybe this explains the recent spate of righteousness in me. I am less tolerant of insensitive behavior and irritating who brag. If only I can prove that braggers are in fact insecure cowards at heart. They need to brag in order to keep up their less than perfect facade. They need to boast in order to convince themselves that they are not lacking. They need reassurances from others simply because they crave for affirmation. Ah…. Losers!
