Gong Xi Gong Xi

Okie… that’s in advance! We’ll be going to KL for the CNY period and I’m so not looking forward to the vegetarian meals on the first day of the Lunar Year! Roarrrrrrrrrr……….. Gimme my meat!!!!

On a calmer note, this is the real cultural shock I recieved after marrying the Man. Ever since I remember CNY and red packets (when I was 2!) , we always have a huge feast for the first day of the year! It’s like a significance of abundance. No matter how poor we were in the past, my mum would make sure there’s food aplenty on the table. Sometimes spending her whole bonus paycheck on it! (Right, those were the days when she earned a meagre $300 monthly.) Our day would start off with breakfast of mee sua (flour noodles) and hard boiled eggs! (Longevity & prosperity! Only the rich can afford eggs in olden times!). After that, the whole kampung, or rather all my relatives (but they seem way too many!) would congregate at my house and feast on seafood, meat, veggie, curry and of cos my Ah Ma’s famouse pork balls! They would hang around and gamble, watch tv, play games, basically creating havoc while my mum, sis and I ran to and fro serving them and cleaning up after their kids. I hate those days! Ok, I hate those entertainment part…

To make my point straight again, I meant to say, wherever we went, there’s a feast in every house we visited. Thou, most of the times we were too stuffed to eat by the third or fourth house (depending on quality of food in the first few houses). So imagine my jaw-dropping shock when I woke up on CNY morning to breakfast of ‘huat4 ge4′ (chinese steamed cake) and a whole day of vegetarian spread!!! Heh… I’m not complaining, though I’m sure I sound that way. I’m perfectly obliging when it comes to cultural differences. I have married a different culture and I am ready to accept it fully, and with grace. (Grace here is referring to abit of nagging on the blog, and still stuffing my face with mock seafood and mock meat at the table!) *Chomp Chomp Chomp*

So this will be Seth’s first CNYand we’re certainly looking forward to showing him off in his pretty little clothes with his new hairstyle that resembles PaPa even more! Not forgetting the red packets he’ll be getting! This is the second year we are giving out red packets and (yay!) we’ll be getting some returns this time!! I som pah (promise) to set aside his red packets and bank them into his own bank account for his future lao3 po2 ben3 (marriage fund)! You know, the reason I remember CNY when I was age 2, was cos I recall standing by the chest of drawers guarding my red packets as my dad ‘threatened’ to take them! Aiyo… money-face me!

Heh, in anticipation of the upcoming Gong Xi Festival, here’s presenting my handsome boy! (BTW, I’ve been teaching him the gong xi gong xi hand gesture and he has been practising it for weeks! I do hope he don’t disappoint me when the day comes!)

Seth and his pre-cny fashion show!
