Beauty Lies In The Eyes Of The Beholder

Have you ever seen a really mismatched couple on the roads? Maybe say, a really dashing guy with a really ‘average’ looking girl? Ahhh…. That girl must have a really kind heart, I’ll think to myself. Or sometimes we don’t understand how this really pretty friend of ours just simply can’t find a decent guy to love her, while this other really bitchy girl switches boyfriends like changing underwear… ah… Have all men gone blind??!!

Sometimes I try to convince myself, that beauty really lies in the eyes of the beholder. Like how, since young, my definition of ‘dashing’ always brings about rolling eyes and disgusted ‘urgh’s from my friends. They say I’ve got weird tastes. But I’ll rather prefer to think I look deeper than the exterior skin. But then again, how do I explain love at first sight? Hmmm…. Ok… I’ve got weird taste. Or stylo taste rather.

Every so often I’ll ask my Man. “Why do you love me? I’m so fat, there are so many slim (anorexic!) girls around. Your friends will laugh at you for bringing me out.” And the politically correct answer, (take note all men!), “Don’t care, I love you ma.” poke poke my tummy* I’ve always suspected he has got a fetish for fats! Thank God for such men! Thou it doesn’t stop me from wanting a body like Halle Berry….

Truth is, one man’s food may be another man’s poison. Everyone of us has got different tastes and different definitions of what is beautiful. Which goes around universally and thus there is always someone beautiful in someone’s eyes. Ain’t that an inspiring thought?! Ah… whoever thinks that Brad Pitt is handsome, I beg to differ. I’ll say Nicholas Cage is more like it! Well, to each his own taste, right?

So before we lose heart & start to comb our hair up & declare ourselves celibate, let’s hold on to the belief that however we look, and whatever our character, there will always be another piece of the puzzle that can fit us exactly, and we’ll form a whole. And until then, let’s just wait patiently and improve ourselves, so that when we finally found the other half, we will be ready, and we will be able to form the perfect match. Meantime, let’s take joy in believing that the other half is also busy preparing himself for the day we are destined to meet…
