I am a Wife
For the first time in my life yesterday, I brewed traditional Chinese medicine! Right! I did not squat by the charcoal stove and wave my fan at the fire. However, I did stand by the gas stove and watch the herbs brew in a traditional earthen pot with a stout. Hey, it’s real TCM, alright! I had to brew 4 bowls of water into 1 bowl of medicine. Ha, though I did suspect half of it over-spilt when I forgot to turn down the fire. Ah, I should have used charcoal, really.
Maybe I’ve been watching too much TV. Maybe I’m just old fashioned. I just enjoy doing these ‘wifey’ chores. Hah.. Call me Xiao Nu Ren (Little woman!) Ok, maybe cos it’s a fresh marriage and my interest will fade over the years. Maybe I’ll feel like Lynette in Desperate Housewives. But at this point in my marriage life, I really enjoy brewing medicine for my hubby, ironing his clothes and hankies (Yup! I really love men with well-pressed hankies and shirts! ), and maybe even cutting his hair! Yup! Think I’ll sign up for a hairdressing course at the CC! My Man’s hairy!! And he asked if I’ll cut his hair last night since he needs a trim every so often. Heh. I think it’ll really boost my almighty wife and future-mother ego to be able to cut my family’s hair! (Of course not in the form of an inverted bowl style! Hmph!)
When I was young, I used to visualise myself married and managing a family. It’s amazing how I’m slowly working towards my vision but yet, so many things are not as I imagined them to be. Most significantly, married life is not as simple as a young mind can imagine. Bringing my babies out in a pram, window shopping in the day, and in the evening, waiting at the door for my hubby to return home after work with a pair of slippers. Not forgetting making him a cup of hot tea and preparing a sumptuous meal after his tired day at work. Ok first off, how are we able to afford such a lifestyle with only one breadwinner? Next, how do I expect myself to be able to look after 3 kids and yet be able to cook up a storm without feeling worn out and naggy, unless I were to take my kid’s ADD pills (heh, been watching too much Desperate Housewives!). Conclusion: I better start training my homemaker skills now! And pray my Man earn tons of money! Enough for me to lead a tai-tai life, with facials and shopping, in between time for nurturing our kids and managing our home. Heh! =p
I think homemakers are great!! They are superhuman!!! Yeah!

[…] Alas, for the Man, I’ve not had much chances to whip up lots of ‘ai xin’ meals for him. The most admirable one was of cos the time I boiled TCM, but that was too yucky to be memorable! Right, those instant meals and common 1-dish meals are not counted! I do cook for him once in a while, but definitely not worth singing about! We do miss the times when we were ‘pak toring’ and how we used to cook in the kitchen of his rented apartment. Our most sumptious was the candlelit steak dinner we prepared. Glad to be saving some bucks by cooking our own steak, we got the juiciest cuts and ended up punishing ourselves with slabs of meat! I felt like a carnivore! […]
