18 Months

Fun at the Zoo!

Seth turns 18 months last week. That is 1.5 years old. From now on, he will be classified under years old and no longer months old. This is indeed a significant milestone for him. And me.

He is developing at such a fast speed that I have lost count of all the first times. The first time he said a word remotely similar to calling “Ah Yee”, “Ah Por”. The first time he tried to jump lifting both legs. The first time gave me flowers plucked from the roadside when he went for a walk. Ah….

He is a little terror now. They say it’s the terrible twos. I attribute it to him finally learning about emotions and ‘trying them out’ on us. There is this other explanation that describes it as him coming to terms with not having EVERYTHING going his way now that he is bigger and supposedly more ‘teachable’. He screams when he wants his way. He drags us to places and refuses to budge if we try to drag him away. He attempts to cry when we make him sleep. Even when he is all worn out, he will make a feeble attempt to “Eh.. Eh..” twice, before he succumbs and knocks out within seconds. Sigh!

He is as active as can be and like an Energizer Bunny, he does not stop until his battery runs flat. When we bring him out, he runs around in glee, as if it’s the first time he’s been set free. I always feel like a psychotic jailer bringing my ward out. Just the other day he was running around an open courtyard when he saw a fallen flower drift across the floor. He did a half-squat, with one hand on his knee and another pointing at the flower, and shouted “Eh”! I wanted to dig a hole and hide! Other times, when we bring him to the malls or bookshops, he will run amok and touch everything within his reach! Luckily for me, so far, he usually managed to place things back in their original shelves, albeit not the exact positions. Heh!

He is still not talking though he is good at calling for help in the forms of “Ah Pa” and “Ah Ma”. Other than that, he’ll point to whatever he wants and says “Eh”! Or he’ll hold our hands and bring us to whatever and wherever he is trying to convey. He signs a little, with the minimal signs I teach him and he is best at signing for milk. Opening and clasping his fists, he’ll go “Nah Nah Nah!” Recently, he has started to blabber alot. He will blabber to me in ‘words’ yet blabber to certain people in ’sentences’. We brought him to a restaurant one day and he was pointing to the menu and blabbering to the waitress animatedly throughout! His blabbers even came with intonations, as if he was asking questions about the food!

And he has become a TV addict. Not exactly watching it all the time, but it has to be on all the time, even if he is not watching, he refuses to have it turned off. He wakes up every morning and signals for me to turn on the TV. That is the only time he does that. Other times, he’ll just get the remote and turn it on by himself. He watches anything from Leapfrog to Pocoyo to local dramas and even OPERAS! Yup! He watches whatever is on at the time and today I caught him watching dialect opera quietly. He even moved forward slightly when the ‘music’ changed louder! :S

His different antics everyday keep me busy but very fulfilled. Everyday passes so quickly I can only say, “I’m so glad I can be there to see his every growing moments.”

On the other hand, I’m getting worried about this attachment between us. I had to attend a dinner this week and he cried so hard when I left my heart broke. Then throughout the whole dinner, I kept thinking about how he’s doing at home and such! Sigh. He is becoming a Mummy’s-boy and me a Baby’s-mum. =/
