The Story of Cookie

‘Cookie’ is this Sesame Street soft toy we got for Seth sometime back. It’s named Cookie as we find it apt to have Cookie and Monster (aka Seth) as companions. Nevermind that it was actually Grover we bought. ‘Cookie’ is just a name. Right. The Man and I are both not Sesame Street fans and thus please pardon us for the mix up between Cookie Monster and Grover. How can they have 2 characters of the same color in a series? We gotta tell the differences via looking at the popping eyes? At least Teletubbies and Power Rangers are color differentiated.

Names aside. Cookie has a difficult ‘beginning’ getting accepted into the family. The Man is a hidden Male Chauvinist Pig and he is against soft toys for boys. Or rather, he WAS against soft toys. Seth has always been a pillow baby. He has 2 bean pillows which he uses to cover his face and hug to sleep. He will bring 1 when we are outside and snuggle up to that when he is tired.

So one day, the Man saw another kid hugging a soft toy and realised how ‘civilised’ and ‘elegant’ that looked. Thus sparked a search for the perfect ‘boyish’ soft toy. Which kinda explains the BLUE monster we got.

Seth’s first reaction to Cookie in the shop was to hug it! Yay! We made up our minds to get that immediately! A minute before he was thrown violently across the floor and laid dying on his face. The days after that we see a love-hate relationship growing between them. At times, he will pick Cookie up lovingly and hug him and pat him. And the next minute he will chomp ferociously on it’s nose, followed by throwing him way up into the air and letting him fall to his death on the cold hard floor!

And instead of replacing the pillow with Cookie when we go out, we now have to bring BOTH pillow and Cookie along. Sigh. Mission Backfired! =\
